Qatar Engages Russia, Urges De-escalation and Diplomacy in Persian Gulf
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qatar is actively pursuing diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions in the Persian Gulf region. In a recent phone call, Qatar’s Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, discussed the critical situation in the Persian Gulf, calling on all parties to resume diplomatic efforts and cease hostilities directed at Iran.
The conversation also encompassed broader regional dynamics, with a particular focus on the escalating tensions within the Persian Gulf. Both ministers underscored the imperative of an immediate cessation of hostilities and a swift resumption of negotiations, referencing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 17. A spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed these ongoing efforts, stating, “We can confirm that efforts are continuing with all parties to reduce tensions in the region. Our focus now is on de-escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and pursuing the diplomatic path. No agreement has been reached yet, and what matters now is returning to the diplomatic path.”
During the call, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar reiterated Doha’s support for initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive agreement that would bring peace to the region. Their stance remains clear: Israel must fulfill its commitments as stipulated in the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Mediators are continuing their work to expedite the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal, according to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict between the United States and Iran are ongoing. Mediators, including Qatar, Pakistan, and Oman, are coordinating closely to facilitate negotiations and the exchange of draft proposals between the two sides.
