US Treasury Secretary Claims Potential Deal with Iran on Strait of Hormuz

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has claimed that an agreement with Iran concerning the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is likely within the next two days. The assertion was published by Mehr News Agency, citing Al Jazeera.

In an interview with CNBC, Bessent stated, “We are in negotiations with the Iranians, and I think there is a possibility that today or tomorrow we will reach an agreement to open the strait and move toward a more normal position in this conflict.”

Responding to a question about tolls, Bessent indicated that the proposed agreement would ensure freedom of navigation through the strait. “This will be freedom of passage,” he said. Although he acknowledged that the situation has remained somewhat precarious in recent days, he also observed a significant number of ships transiting the strait.
