Cyberattacks Expand Against U.S. States, Targeting Water Infrastructure

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, ABC News reported that the number of U.S. states targeted by coordinated cyberattacks against the nation’s water and wastewater facilities has increased to 12. Earlier media reports had highlighted a wave of cyberattacks that specifically targeted water and wastewater facilities in U.S. states during July and August 2026. In Minnesota, more than 30 water systems experienced disruptions, forcing some municipalities to revert to manual operations. U.S. officials confirmed that the drinking water supply was not contaminated, but investigations into the source of the attacks are continuing.
