Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Army Chief Embark on Saudi Arabia Visit Amid Regional Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistani sources informed Al Arabia on Wednesday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir are slated to visit Saudi Arabia tomorrow. This visit occurs as the region witnesses a wave of diplomatic endeavors centered on the conflict between the United States and Iran and its regional repercussions. Pakistan has been acting as a mediator in this conflict, following U.S. and Israeli aggressions against Iran.

Control of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, which serves as a primary route for approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies and other vital commodities, has been a significant obstacle in efforts to resolve tensions. The strait has been largely blocked since the onset of the war in late February.

U.S. President Donald Trump, after reiterating his usual threats to influence negotiations earlier this week, claimed he would cancel an attack on Iran to pave the way for discussions. Al Arabia’s correspondent reported on Tuesday that Pakistan has received positive signals from Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
