Four Nations Convene in Amman to Discuss Regional Security and Maritime Stability
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a crucial four-way meeting involving the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey was held in Amman, the capital of Jordan. This gathering marked the fifth such session among these four regional players, focusing on the latest developments within the region. The attendees underscored the imperative of sustained efforts, enhanced joint coordination, and unified stances on prevailing regional issues.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. It took place on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting on Al-Quds (Jerusalem) convened in Amman.
The ministers highlighted the significance of synergistic efforts to ensure the safety of vital maritime passages, specifically the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab, identifying them as crucial pillars for global economic stability and international trade security. Their discussions aimed at guaranteeing freedom of navigation through these chokepoints, thereby supporting the resilience of supply chains and energy markets.
The participating nations, while not explicitly referencing repeated U.S. breaches of agreements following its understanding with the Islamic Republic of Iran, called for a return to the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran on June 18 of the previous year. They advocated for supporting endeavors to achieve a stable agreement that would bolster regional security and stability, steering the region away from further escalation and crises.
During these consultations, discussions encompassed strategies for expanding cooperation and coordination among the four countries within the framework of their “Quadripartite Mechanism.” They also deliberated on the future security landscape of the region and the operational mechanisms of this mechanism to enhance its effectiveness.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement indicating that the meeting addressed “latest regional developments in light of ongoing military escalations and efforts to de-escalate tensions and establish calm, particularly concerning the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the ministers welcomed and appreciated the formation of a “multinational defensive maritime coalition” aimed at bolstering maritime security, protecting international waterways, and confronting threats targeting global shipping and trade.
