Yemen’s Maritime Operations Expand Towards Saudi Waters, Warns Windward
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, maritime intelligence firm Windward has announced that vessels affiliated with Saudi Arabia are finding their course alterations insufficient to evade attacks by Yemeni armed forces in the northern Red Sea. The firm noted that ships rerouting to avoid the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are not effectively safeguarding themselves from these operations.
The reports indicate that Yemeni forces have broadened the scope of their operations to pursue vessels linked to Saudi Arabia beyond the declared blockade zone in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. This trend is exemplified by the targeting of the oil tanker Vafa.
Windward emphasized that the Vafa tanker’s targeting near Yanbu signifies an expansion of Yemeni operations into Saudi territorial waters. The firm reiterated that the risk levels in the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden remain elevated.
