Europe’s Drone Defense Lags Behind Russian Threats, Study Finds

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, results from a joint research effort by the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and Germany’s Hanns Seidel Foundation indicate that Europe‘s military and defense infrastructure is not aligned with the existing drone threat levels.

The report claims that the Kremlin is highly likely orchestrating a drone campaign across the European continent. Despite this assertion, European nations have so far failed to formally and documentarily attribute attacks on critical infrastructure, airports, and military facilities to Russia.

Analysts involved in the research attributed this weakness to a lack of integrated detection and interception systems, fragmented legal authority among security institutions, and a slow process for identifying those responsible for attacks. These shortcomings have resulted in inadequate deterrence.

The report’s authors emphasized that European governments have focused solely on national and ad-hoc reactions to each incident, rather than adopting a unified continental strategy.

In this regard, Klaus Hölzsch, President of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, described the current situation as “concerning,” admitting that Europe is not sufficiently prepared to face such hybrid threats.
