General Electric Staff Evacuated from Libya’s Al-Zawiya Amid Facility Attacks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, General Electric staff have been evacuated from Al-Zawiya, Libya, after an attack on a vital power distribution station led to the suspension of the American company’s activities. The 30/11 kilovolt distribution station in the southern part of Al-Zawiya was completely engulfed in flames and taken offline after an assault by unknown individuals, prompting the departure of technical personnel.

The Libyan General Electricity Company announced that recent unrest and security attacks in Al-Zawiya have inflicted severe damage on the power grid’s facilities and infrastructure, significantly disrupting network stability. In response to the prevailing insecurity, the American company General Electric has halted all its operations at the Al-Zawiya power plant and evacuated its technical teams until the security situation improves.

This action has led to warnings from the Libyan Electricity Company regarding delays in the reconstruction and repair of damaged units. The recent incident follows drone attacks on fuel depots at the Al-Zawiya refinery complex, which is Libya’s largest operational refinery.

The intensification of clashes in this strategic city has destabilized the nation’s energy sector. The Libyan National Oil Corporation has warned that it will declare a state of emergency if drone attacks on oil facilities continue.
