Russia Claims Right to Target Western Commercial Ships Amid Sanctions Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia asserts its right to take action against commercial ships belonging to Western nations under specific circumstances. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, stated that Moscow could treat Western commercial vessels in the same manner that Europe has treated ships associated with Russia’s “shadow fleet.” This implies that Russia may target any commercial ship from adversarial countries if there is sufficient evidence of it transporting cargo to Ukraine, even if the vessel is operating in international waters.

Medvedev further emphasized that Russia’s armed forces possess the capability to extend their operations beyond the Black Sea. These remarks follow a period of heightened tensions concerning vessels identified as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet.” Western nations consider this fleet to be instrumental in circumventing Russian oil sanctions.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had also issued a warning, indicating that Russia would retaliate against any attempts to seize Russian commercial ships.
