Canada Imposes Sanctions on Five Iranians Over Alleged Destabilizing Activities
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Canada‘s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anita Anand, announced on [current date in 2026], that the country has imposed sanctions on five Iranian individuals as part of economic measures against Tehran. Canada claims these individuals were involved in military, legal, and communication activities that undermine international peace, security, and stability.
Canada asserted that these actions are in line with the efforts of its allies and partners to counter Iran’s alleged “destabilizing” activities. This development follows recent international discussions and potential setbacks in efforts to ensure freedom of navigation, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz, which analysts suggest may have prompted such sanctions.
The Canadian Foreign Minister stated that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is vital for global trade and energy security. She added that today’s sanctions target individuals whose actions, according to Canada, undermine these principles and threaten global economic and energy security.
According to an official document released by the Canadian government, four of the sanctioned individuals are Major General Ali Abdollahi, Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters and a senior official in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters; Ebrahim Azizi, a member of parliament and head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee; and Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, Commander of the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army.
