EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen Warns of Escalating Forest Fire Risks Across Europe
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Saturday via the social media platform X that Europe remains on high alert for forest fires, with mounting pressure observed in countries including Belgium, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Von der Leyen further elaborated that Europe’s Copernicus satellite system is actively supporting mapping operations in nations such as Spain, Albania, Greece, France, Germany, and Serbia. The European Union is closely monitoring fires across the continent through its Emergency Management Centre, and its Civil Protection Mechanism stands ready to intervene whenever a country requests European solidarity.
This warning comes as the United Kingdom government previously dispatched unprecedented emergency alerts to millions of citizens nationwide, following severe drought conditions and an increased risk of fires.
