Syrian Foreign Minister Denies Turkish Military Base Plans at Abu al-Duhur Airfield

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Syria‘s self-proclaimed Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, has stated that there are no plans for Turkey to construct a military base or establish a permanent military presence at the Abu al-Duhur airfield in Idlib province. In an interview with the Axios news outlet, Al-Shaibani clarified that the airfield was largely empty and that no Turkish military gatherings were present.

Al-Shaibani further commented on the airstrike, noting that linking the Israeli aerial attack to any Turkish presence at the targeted site does not align with the realities on the ground. He explained to Israel that Syria had no cooperation with Turkey regarding the construction or military build-up at this particular base, yet Israel proceeded with the attack.

The Syrian Foreign Minister also revealed that he was in contact with the Trump administration both before and after the Israeli strike to convey Syria’s position and to prevent an escalation of tensions. Additionally, he confirmed prior communication with Israel, where he had explained that there were no plans for a permanent Turkish presence at Abu al-Duhur. Al-Shaibani concluded by emphasizing that there was no justification for Israel’s strike on the Abu al-Duhur airbase.
