UAE Expresses Concern Over Economic Sanctions Against Iran

The United Arab Emirates is reportedly concerned that intensified U.S. economic pressure on Iran could negatively impact Gulf economies, while seeking to maintain communication channels with Tehran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that the United States has requested the UAE to increase economic pressure against Iran. This comes amid concerns from Emirati officials that the U.S. strategy towards Iran could harm the economic sectors of Persian Gulf countries.

Emirati officials reportedly wish to preserve some communication channels with Tehran to utilize political tools in case the current strategy fails. Previously, the Director of the Strategic Communications Department at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the suspension of trade and financial transactions with Iran. These U.S. actions follow unsuccessful military actions against Iran and a failure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
