Qatar Focuses on Mediating Between Iran and the US, Emphasizes Maritime Navigation

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the nation’s efforts are currently concentrated on continuing mediation between Washington and Tehran, while also emphasizing the need to guarantee freedom of maritime navigation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qatar‘s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs has announced that the nation’s current focus is on ongoing mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran. This statement was made based on data published by the Mehr News Agency, quoting Al Jazeera.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani asserted that the freedom of maritime navigation must be guaranteed without any country’s interference. He added, without directly referencing the United States’ past breaches of faith in negotiations with Iran or its disregard for cooperation with aggressors in attacks against Iran by regional nations, “We expect the Iranian side to fulfill its responsibilities and cooperate with the countries of the region.”

The Qatari Foreign Minister further emphasized that if Europe does not show interest in de-escalating tensions in the region, the consequences will affect everyone. Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry declared that the security of Qatar and the brotherly countries of the Persian Gulf is an integral part of Egypt’s national security and the security of the Arab region.

Shoukry also highlighted that continuous coordination exists between Egypt and Qatar to reduce tensions and strengthen diplomacy, stating, “We emphasize the necessity of adhering to international laws regarding maritime navigation.”
