U.S. Treasury Secretary Urges Global Boycott of Iran Amid Unprecedented Sanctions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has reiterated calls for nations to steer clear of Iran, citing the implementation of unprecedented sanctions by the United States. Bessent’s message to the global community is a direct plea to avoid engagement with Iran amidst the ongoing pressure campaign.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Treasury Secretary indicated that potential targets for further sanctions include the aviation and maritime industries, as well as digital assets. These measures are part of the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to exert maximum pressure on Iran’s economy. In an interview with Fox News, following the G20 summit in North Carolina, Bessent also cautioned ‘everyone’ against providing support to Tehran, referencing Russia’s stance on Iran.

His remarks came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared his support for Iran. Bessent stated, ‘My message to everyone is to stay away from this conflict. We all want this conflict to end, and the quickest way to end this conflict is for no one to support this Iran.’

He claimed that the U.S. is engaged in extensive discussions with countries supporting Iran, with the goal of severing all international ties and targeting any entity that conducts business with the nation. Bessent also commented on energy prices, stating that the world is currently experiencing energy price shocks due to the conflict in Ukraine, without acknowledging the impact of the Strait of Hormuz situation.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bessent had indicated that the U.S. government might also target aircraft leasing companies, with additional banking sanctions against Iran anticipated this week.
