Turkey to Oversee PKK Disarmament in Iraq, Al Mayadeen Reports

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkey‘s intelligence organization will be responsible for overseeing the process of weapons surrender by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Iraq, Al Mayadeen television network reported from Sulaymaniyah.

The Turkish intelligence agency is set to conduct on-site supervision of the evacuation of 72 bases and hideouts belonging to the PKK. Five locations have been designated along the border between Erbil and Sulaymaniyah for the PKK to hand over its weapons.

Following the PKK’s withdrawal from these areas, Iraqi border guards, in conjunction with Peshmerga forces, will be stationed there. This development follows recent legislative actions in Turkey, including a law passed by the Turkish parliament aimed at supporting peace efforts with the PKK. Earlier, the ruling Justice and Development Party submitted a bill to parliament proposing the dissolution of the PKK. Turkey’s National Security Council is slated to oversee the implementation of this bill, which includes the dissolution and disarmament of the PKK forces.
