US Lawmakers Surprised by Trump’s Unfunded 5,000 Dollar Pledge
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Politico reported that senior Republican lawmakers had no prior knowledge or plan concerning former President Donald Trump‘s recent statement promising $5,000 to every American if the Republican Party retains control of Congress. This declaration has caught many by surprise within the party.
The report, citing four anonymous sources, indicated that Republican leadership had informally dismissed similar populist spending promises from Trump over the past year. Key party members were reportedly taken aback when Trump made this specific pledge last Wednesday.
Efforts are now underway to manage expectations among lawmakers and voters concerning a plan that carries a projected cost exceeding one trillion dollars, a sum considered unachievable by many within the party. House Majority Leader Tom Emmer confirmed he was as shocked as others upon hearing Trump’s announcement.
Furthermore, some Republican party members have voiced doubts about the legitimacy and practicality of Trump’s pledge. The former President recently stated that if Republicans secure control of Congress in the November midterm elections, each American adult would receive $5,000, to be known as ‘Trump Dividends’.
