Iraq Temporarily Closes Shalamcheh Border Crossing Amid Security Concerns

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a security source in Iraq has confirmed the temporary closure of the Shalamcheh border crossing, citing an order from the Commander-in-Chief of the country’s armed forces. While no official explanation has been provided for the closure, local sources suggest it is a precautionary measure against potential attacks.

The Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces issued directives late last night for an immediate investigation into alleged attacks targeting the nation’s vital oil arteries, which Saudi Arabia claims were launched from Iraqi soil. Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi mandated a swift inquiry into the dimensions and details of these attacks, including identifying those behind them, and vowed legal action against any party proven to be involved.

Al-Zaidi also ordered the formation of an investigative committee following the assault on Saudi Arabia’s oil pipeline. The Iraqi government on Friday night condemned the attacks, which Saudi Arabia alleged targeted its oil transfer pipeline, emphasizing that any act compromising the security, stability, or “brotherly relations” between the two nations is unacceptable.
