South Korea Rejects Trump’s Request for Troops in Strait of Hormuz

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has confirmed that his nation will not deploy troops to the Strait of Hormuz. This statement comes amidst ongoing pressure from the United States on South Korea to participate in efforts related to the vital waterway.

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump had publicly indicated that he had requested South Korean participation in the initiative, but his request was met with a negative response. Earlier, the South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs engaged in a phone conversation with Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, to discuss recent developments in the Middle East and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

A South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs official, explaining the discussion, stated that the Foreign Minister conveyed Seoul’s position that no decision had been made regarding any potential troop deployment. The official also emphasized the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible.
