Over 45 Percent of Russians Vote by Sunday Morning in Duma Elections

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, over 45 percent of Russians had participated in the Duma elections by Sunday morning, as announced by Ella Pamfilova, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of Russia, during a press conference. Pamfilova also noted that the number of voters who cast their ballots through the remote electronic voting system exceeded six million.

Pamfilova stated that cyberattacks on Moscow’s information systems caused brief disruptions to the electronic voting terminals, but their functionality has been fully restored and they are now operating normally. She also highlighted the significance of votes cast by Russians residing in border regions near Baltic countries and Poland, emphasizing that every vote from these areas is crucial.

“Every vote is extremely important. These individuals did not simply get up from their seats and vote electronically or go to the nearest polling station with easy access, as residents of Moscow did. For us, everything is much easier in Russia. These people had to overcome numerous obstacles. They had to face an unfavorable environment in the countries where they live,” Pamfilova explained. The Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission of Russia underscored that the voting process for Russians in “unfriendly countries” is being conducted under difficult circumstances.

The 2026 elections mark the ninth convocation of Russia’s State Duma and the country’s first parliamentary elections since the commencement of the war in Ukraine. Originally scheduled for September 20, the elections were extended over three days, from September 18 to September 20. A total of 450 seats in the State Duma are up for election for a five-year term.
