Zelensky Sets Conditions for De-escalation with Russia, Cites Talks with Trump

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Monday via a social media post on X that the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine and against common sense must cease. He asserted that each new week, let alone a new year, of the conflict exacerbates existing problems.

The Ukrainian president claimed that Kyiv has consistently pursued peace since the outset of the hostilities. He highlighted that Ukraine has presented numerous diplomatic proposals aimed at concluding the war while preserving national dignity, ensuring security, and preventing further Russian aggression. Zelensky also indicated that discussions are underway with President Trump and the United States concerning pathways to peace, with concrete steps for de-escalation being central to these proposals.

Volodymyr Zelensky further specified that Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure, and food exports should no longer be targets of Russian attacks. He suggested that refraining from such strikes would prompt reciprocal measures from Ukraine to reduce tensions, asserting that finding solutions is achievable. Zelensky affirmed Ukraine’s readiness to work towards these resolutions and indicated that these matters would be discussed with partners on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
