Iraqi Parliament Faction Warns Baghdad Against Iran Sanctions Enforcement

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Badr parliamentary bloc in Iraq stated on Tuesday that the Iraqi government and its aviation authority should not yield to the demands of the U.S. Treasury Department regarding sanctions against Iran’s aviation industry and the prohibition of using Iraqi airspace and airports. The bloc stressed that capitulating to these sanctions would constitute a violation of national sovereignty and cross a significant spiritual red line, impacting the movement of pilgrims to holy sites as well as Iraq’s internal economy.

The Badr parliamentary faction urged the Iraqi government to clearly articulate its stance on these sanctions. Previously, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced its opposition to illegal U.S. sanctions against Iranian airlines. Some time ago, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had claimed that the activities of all commercial airlines in Iran would cease globally starting Wednesday, September 23.
