Lebanese and Iraqi Prime Ministers Meet in New York, Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Developments

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati held a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani in New York during the United Nations General Assembly sessions. The meeting was attended by Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

During their discussions, both leaders reviewed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments. They followed up on the outcomes of Prime Minister Mikati’s visit to Baghdad in July, specifically focusing on joint projects in the energy, transportation, and regional connectivity sectors.

Addressing the common challenges confronting Lebanon and Iraq, the two prime ministers emphasized their commitment to bolstering state sovereignty and governmental institutions. They also reiterated their dedication to advancing the path toward “bringing weapons under state control,” deeming this a fundamental pillar for preserving sovereignty and ensuring stability in both countries.

In recent months, both the Lebanese and Iraqi governments have intensified efforts, under U.S. pressure, to restrict the weaponry of resistance groups and consolidate arms exclusively within state authority.
