Russia Calls Iran’s Strait of Hormuz Reopening Proposal Constructive

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia views Iran‘s proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz as pragmatic and constructive, according to Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency. Ulyanov posted on X: “It seems Iran’s proposal is pragmatic and constructive. We need to see how the United States will react?”

This statement comes as Iran has proposed initiating a seven-day process to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume negotiations, provided the U.S. meets Tehran’s specified conditions. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, announced on Friday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that if the proposal is accepted by the U.S., initial steps would be taken within four to five days. The Strait of Hormuz would be reopened on the sixth day, with negotiations on agreed-upon issues commencing on the seventh.

According to published reports, Iran’s proposal was conveyed to the U.S. through Qatar. Tehran has stated that its conditions for this plan include the lifting of the maritime blockade on Iranian ports, the abolition of oil sanctions, and the establishment of a ceasefire in the region.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Iran is still awaiting an official response from Washington to this proposal on Saturday. This comes amid claims by The Wall Street Journal that U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected the plan. However, as of the publication of this report, the White House has not released an official, public response regarding the specifics of Iran’s proposal.
