Analyst: Iran’s UN Victory Bolsters Battlefield Strength
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, strategic affairs analyst Abdel Bari Atwan has examined the speeches delivered at the United Nations General Assembly, asserting that U.S. President Donald Trump’s address at the opening of the 81st session revealed his psychological and physical affliction with ‘Iran,’ a malady shared by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Atwan contended that the failed war waged by Trump and Netanyahu against Iran, which achieved none of its objectives, was the sole focus of their speeches, while other global issues, including the Ukraine conflict, the state of the world economy, and America’s internal turmoil, were largely ignored.
He pointed to Trump’s perceived pleas for a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, last-minute efforts to secure visas for the Iranian delegation, and aggressive rhetoric against Iran during the opening ceremony as evidence of this ‘Iran’ affliction leading to Trump’s confused and unstable behavior.
Atwan described Iranian President Pezeshkian’s response to Trump’s accusations as ‘crushing,’ emphasizing that the President presented a comprehensive account of U.S. and Israeli terrorist actions. These included the genocide in Gaza, massacres and crimes in Iran, the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family members, and the killing of over 150 male and female students in Minab, southern Iran.
He suggested that Iran’s response on the ground to the provocations and the political and military miscalculations of Trump could manifest in the coming days across various fronts. Two key indicators support this prediction.
First, Atwan highlighted the remarks by Brigadier General Yahya Rahim Safavi, an advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Safavi warned that any future U.S. attack on Iran could broaden the scope of the conflict beyond the Strait of Hormuz and its surroundings, potentially extending to the Indian Ocean, mirroring the expansion into the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Arabian Sea. This implies that American bases, ships, and aircraft carriers would become legitimate targets for advanced ballistic missile strikes.
Second, Atwan noted the statements by Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. Rezaei indicated strategic shifts in Iran’s defensive and diplomatic policies, asserting that no negotiations would occur unless the U.S. practically implements agreed-upon terms. He further specified that any country engaging in hostilities, such as prohibiting Iranian flights or imposing economic sanctions, would be considered an enemy and treated accordingly.
In his article, Atwan added that Major General Rezaei, speaking in military attire, derided the U.S. and its president, stating, ‘America planned to destroy Iran in this war, but it practically turned it into the world’s fourth power.’ He recalled Iran’s entry into military history as the first nation whose air defense successfully downed advanced stealth fighter jets like the F-35 and sophisticated AWACS surveillance aircraft. More significantly, Atwan observed that the world no longer views the U.S. as a superpower that can be relied upon for support.
Atwan further elaborated that seven months of American-Israeli aggression have demonstrated Iran’s commitment to its word. The country stood firm, inflicting repeated defeats on the aggressors, a fact acknowledged by American military and strategic experts. Crucially, senior generals in CENTCOM are reportedly not only advocating for withdrawal from the Strait of Hormuz and its vicinity but from the entire region to mitigate losses.
The United Nations General Assembly session, which commenced last Tuesday, will be historically remembered for exposing Trump’s follies and clownish, unwell behavior, as well as for isolating the Israeli regime and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the source of terrorism and genocide.
