EU Warns of Energy Price Crisis Fueled by Conflict and Supply Disruptions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the European Union is grappling with a significant energy price crisis, stemming from the ramifications of ongoing conflicts and their impact on global oil and gas markets. Dan Jørgensen, the European Commissioner for Energy, conveyed this warning in a letter addressed to the energy ministers of member states.
Jørgensen stated that the bloc is confronting a crisis in energy prices directly associated with supply disruptions. He noted that while the European Union is better prepared for the approaching winter compared to 2021, when Russia curtailed gas exports, affecting Europe’s energy supply, increased vigilance is still required.
The Commissioner urged member governments to intensify their preparations for the forthcoming winter season. He further recommended that member states consider implementing measures to maintain gas injection into storage facilities and, if the crisis persists, to reduce gas and electricity consumption for as long as necessary.
