Israel Closes West Bank Crossings for One Week Ahead of Jewish Holiday

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli authorities have decided to implement a “complete closure of the occupied West Bank,” blocking all entry points to the region. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported on Sunday that these restrictions will remain in effect until Saturday, October 3rd. Israeli officials cited the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, also known as the “Feast of Tabernacles,” as the reason for these measures.

These actions involve increased military restrictions at checkpoints and roadblocks, as well as limitations on Palestinian movement and access to holy sites. Israeli forces intensified restrictions in areas surrounding Ramallah and Al-Bireh on Sunday, closing several roads and entrances. According to Wafa, Palestinians were subjected to harassment and searches. The report indicated that the entrances to Taybeh, Beitunya, ‘Abud, Nabi Saleh, and ‘Attara were also sealed. Israeli forces established checkpoints in Yabrud, Ein Siniya, and Jifna to inspect vehicles and check Palestinian identification documents.

These developments come amid intensified Israeli military actions and attacks in the occupied West Bank since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. According to official Palestinian statistics, at least 1,206 Palestinians, including 254 children, have been killed and approximately 13,350 have been injured since that time. More than 24,600 individuals have also been detained.
