Iranian Diplomacy Outshines Israeli Efforts at UN General Assembly, Israeli Media Reports

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Hebrew-language newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” has drawn attention to the stark contrast between Tehran’s and Tel Aviv’s diplomatic activities during their participation in the United Nations General Assembly sessions.

The report indicates that the brief visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to New York and his address at the General Assembly this week will primarily be remembered for the significant number of delegates walking out of the hall as he began his speech, as well as the limited diplomatic meetings he held during his stay in New York. In contrast, Iran‘s diplomatic agenda, presented to the General Assembly, was described as far more dynamic.

The newspaper added that Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, who represented his country at the UN sessions, “is still present in New York and is expected to remain in the city in the coming days.”

According to the publication, Araghchi met with representatives from at least 24 countries during his trip to New York, including the foreign ministers of major European powers. Netanyahu, on the sidelines of the General Assembly, met with only nine leaders, including the President of Argentina, the Prime Minister of Greece, and the new Prime Minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša.

The Israeli newspaper further reported that Araghchi held meetings with Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and his counterparts from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine. He also met with Ayman Safadi, the Foreign Minister of Jordan, shortly after Iran targeted American objectives within Jordan. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and engaged with representatives from Western media outlets.

“Yedioth” considers “the most significant diplomatic event for Iran during the General Assembly session to be Araghchi’s meeting with Steve Witkoff, an envoy for Donald Trump, the President of the United States.” According to the newspaper, Araghchi presented a new proposal in the negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
