IAEA Chief States No Formal US-Iran Talks Underway, Cites Unofficial Contacts

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, announced on Tuesday that there are no comprehensive official negotiations underway between the United States and Iran. However, he noted that the parties are maintaining unofficial contact, which could potentially lead to the resumption of talks.

Responding to a question about U.S. efforts to initiate discussions with Iran through intermediaries, Grossi clarified, “There is no negotiation process in the true sense of the word at the moment.” He further elaborated that sporadic contacts are taking place, including in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week. Grossi described these exchanges as purely informal for now but expressed hope that they might pave the way for renewed dialogue. He acknowledged that the process has gone through multiple stages with various mediators involved at different junctures.

The IAEA chief emphasized that nuclear issues are only one component of the broader disputes, but these very issues were the origin of the conflict, which subsequently expanded to encompass wider dimensions.
