US Centcom Affirms Continued Anti-ISIS Operations from Jordan

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, US Central Command (Centcom) Commander Brad Cooper announced that American forces and the coalition stationed in the region will remain prepared to counter the threat of ISIS, despite the handover of primary security responsibilities in Iraq to the Iraqi government and its forces.

The “Operation Inherent Resolve” headquarters, established to combat ISIS, is now based in Jordan and continues its activities from the country.

The Pentagon previously stated that the United States and its international coalition allies had officially concluded Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq. The Pentagon added that with the conclusion of this operation, the US-led international coalition’s mission would transition to Iraq-led security efforts, supporting bilateral security relations between Washington and Baghdad.

On January 18, 2026, the Iraqi Supreme Military Committee announced the end of the coalition’s mission and the completion of the evacuation of bases and command headquarters in federal regions by coalition advisors, including Ain al-Asad airbase and the Joint Operations Command headquarters. Logistical support for operations in Syria will continue through an airbase in Erbil.
