It should be remembered that for the past 20 years, oil has been supplied from Kazakhstan to the Russian city of Novorossiysk through the CPC (Caspian Pipeline Consortium) pipeline. On average, 1.3-1.4 million barrels per day passed through it. It is currently the main export route for Kazakhstan’s oil, which until recently worked without problems, but in the past few years, the system has periodically been disrupted due to various external factors, including the oil spill incident in August 2021, damage to the TPM, and inspections. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan transport oil on the basis of parity on the “Octao-Baku” sea route. The new tankers are expected to fully cover the obligations of the Kazakh side to transfer 750 thousand tons of oil per year.
