Orban’s support for China’s 12-point plan to resolve the war in Ukraine

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency, citing Tass, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán supported Beijing’s peace plan regarding the Ukraine war during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Orban said: Hungarians are a peaceful nation. Hence, we are in favor of peace and not war. The military conflict in the neighboring country, Ukraine, has been going on for two and a half years, and during this time, Hungary has always been under the shadow of war.

He emphasized: Therefore, the fact that China has called for world peace is very important for us. Regarding the ongoing war in the vicinity of Hungary, we are very grateful for your (China) peace initiative.

On his arrival in Beijing, Orban wrote on “X” channel: China is considered an important power in the path of establishing peace conditions in the war between Russia and Ukraine. For this reason, only two months after Xi Jinping’s official visit to Budapest, I have come to Beijing to meet him.

The Prime Minister of Hungary, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 5th during his trip to Moscow and discussed solutions. And the diplomatic chapter of the Ukrainian war discussed. Earlier, on July 2, he had also met with Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, during his trip to Kyiv. Budapest has repeatedly supported China’s 12-point proposal to establish peace in Ukraine.

Orban’s trips as the head of the European Council with the aim of negotiating to establish peace in Ukraine have been accompanied by a sharp reaction from the European Union. Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, warned in one of these reactions that Orban does not have the authority to negotiate on behalf of the European Union.
