The United Nations established World Press Freedom Day to defend journalists worldwide who face dangers and attacks due to their profession. Observed annually on May 3, this year’s occasion coincides with the Zionist regime’s media genocide. since October 7, 2023, 212 journalists have been martyred by the occupying Israeli army in Gaza. Another 49 journalists have been detained by Zionist forces without any meaningful protest from international bodies. Media workers in Gaza are enduring their deadliest period—the primary victims of IsraelS genocide—simply for exposing its crimes globally.
