China Announces Support for Direct Talks Between Moscow and Kyiv
According to the English section of the Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and RT, China has expressed support for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, stating it welcomes all efforts aimed at resolving the Ukraine war through a lasting peace agreement.
Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday urged the Ukrainian government to resume direct talks between the two countries, which were abandoned in spring 2022. He added that a meeting could be arranged next Thursday in Turkey for this purpose. ankara has agreed to this request.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said during today’s press briefing: “The Chinese government supports all efforts toward achieving peace and hopes Russia and Ukraine find a path toward a fair, lasting, and binding peace agreement acceptable to both sides—achieved through dialogue and negotiation.”
He further stated that Beijing has consistently advocated for a peaceful resolution as the only viable solution to this conflict.According to him,China will continue playing a constructive role in de-escalation efforts.Ukraine and NATO’s european members—forming what they call an “Alliance of Zealots”—have demanded that Russia agree to a 30-day ceasefire before any direct talks take place.
However,U.S. President Donald Trump has called for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to begin as soon as possible, claiming Washington has fulfilled its role in preparing diplomatic groundwork.Moscow has expressed concerns over Kyiv potentially using such a ceasefire to regroup before resuming hostilities.
