US troop numbers in Syria to drop to 900 in coming months
According to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, a U.S. official said that President Donald Trump has not yet finalized his decision on the future of America’s military presence in Syria.
The American official added in an interview with Al Jazeera: U.S. forces continue withdrawing from some bases in Syria, and their numbers will decrease from 2,000 to 900 troops in the coming months.
These developments come as Trump met with Ahmad al-Sharaa, head of Syria’s ruling body, during his recent visit to Riyadh and stated he would lift sanctions against the country.
Many media outlets and analysts believe one of trump’s demands from al-Jolani—in exchange for lifting sanctions on Syria—is recognition of the Zionist regime and normalization of relations with it.
