Senior Iraqi Leader of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham Assassinated in Syria’s Idlib
According to webangah News Agency, Syrian media reported on Sunday the assassination of a former Iraqi leader of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham on a street in Idlib, southern Syria.
The sources stated that two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on Abu Ayesha al-Iraqi, a former commander of Hayat Tahrir al-sham, in the town of Azmarin near Idlib.
The armed assailants heavily targeted al-Iraqi during the attack, killing him while he was visiting Idlib to meet a relative.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that no group has claimed obligation for assassinating this former Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader.
Abu Ayesha al-Iraqi was an ISIS commander in 2014 before relocating to Syria and settling in Idlib by 2016. He later joined Hayat Tahrir al-sham before reportedly ceasing all militant activities.
