Jeffrey Sachs: Establishing a Palestinian State Goes Beyond U.S. Political Understanding
According to webangah News Agency, Jeffrey Sachs, economist, public policy analyst, and American university professor stated during an online session at the International Conference on European and American Studies held by the university of Tehran’s School of World Studies: “The establishment of a Palestinian state and the two-state solution exceed the political understanding of the United States.”
Sachs emphasized that America remains Israel’s sole major supporter, stating: “(Benjamin) Netanyahu continues his policies while the US stands firmly beside him, maintaining the siege on Palestine.”
The professor added that ideological support for Israel-particularly from Evangelical fundamentalists-has created deep divisions within jewish communities.
Sachs noted: “Many US wars over the past 30 years were waged at Israel’s request-including conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan-largely influenced by Israeli fundamentalist lobbies and Netanyahu.”
Highlighting America’s military exhaustion amid its pivot toward countering China, Sachs said: “The US has incurred massive war expenditures over decades. Military spending supporting Israel exceeds 7% of America’s GDP-but crisis budgets are far greater.”
“America is weakened,” Sachs asserted. “All signs indicate it genuinely wants to avoid war with iran. The US cannot afford another conflict. Iran-Russia cooperation provides meaningful anti-war deterrence. attacking Iran would become everyone’s tragedy.”
Regarding Trump’s governance during its first five months: ”No long-term strategy has yet emerged,” Sachs observed.
“America’s political landscape shows severe fractures,” he continued. “Trump lacks popularity; consequently this administration exhibits uncertainty rather than stability or clarity.”
The conference organized by Contemporary Nations Research Institute (Iran-Eureka) and University of Tehran’s School of World Studies features over 100 international relations experts across specialized sessions since yesterday.
