Tsunami Approaching California Shores
According to the English section of webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Today,US meteorologists have announced that tsunami waves triggered by a powerful earthquake in eastern Russia will reach the California coast. Authorities in the region have urged residents to stay away from the beaches.
CNN reported that following the 8.5-magnitude earthquake in eastern Russia, tsunami waves have already reached Hawaii. Officials in Hawaii confirmed that flights at local airports were canceled due to the tsunami risk. Reuters also reported rising wave levels along Hawaiian shores.
Simultaneously occurring, officials in Severomorsk, Russia, reported four separate tsunami waves following the same earthquake.
Earlier, TASS news agency stated that 2,700 people near Kamchatka’s coastline were evacuated and relocated to safe areas on the Kuril Islands after the strong tremor.
The Russian Geophysical Service noted that 30 aftershocks ranging between magnitudes 2 and 5 have been recorded following the main quake near Kamchatka’s coast.
Following this severe earthquake in eastern Russia, countries including Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Peru, and China also issued tsunami warnings. Chinese authorities recently warned of potential tsunamis along their eastern coastal regions.
the research division of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced early today that an earthquake measuring magnitude 8.5 shook areas near Kamchatka Peninsula’s shores.The institute emphasized that such a seismic event is exceptionally rare and unusual.
CNN further highlighted that this quake is the strongest recorded worldwide since 2011.
