Argentine Groups Sue UK and Israeli Firms Over Falklands Oil Project

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Argentine groups, including veterans and environmental lawyers, have initiated legal action to stop a British and Israeli oil project near the shores of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The aforementioned groups are petitioning the Argentine judiciary to prevent the commencement of hydrocarbon exploration and extraction operations by two companies, Rockhopper Exploration of the UK and Navitas Petroleum of Israel, in the Sea Lion field, located 220 kilometers from the Falkland Islands.

These groups emphasize that the project violates United Nations resolutions that call for avoiding unilateral actions in areas with existing regional disputes.

This legal complaint follows statements made by President Donald Trump, who indicated that the United States might reconsider its neutral stance on the disputed region. These remarks were welcomed by the President of Argentina. Tensions in the relationship between Argentina and the United Kingdom date back to the 1982 war, and Argentina continues to assert its claim of sovereignty over the islands.
