Drone Downed Over Cornfield in Poland; Warsaw Points Finger at Russia
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Poland’s Defense Minister described the crash of a drone attributed to Russia on a farm in eastern Poland as a provocative act.
Reuters reported that the drone crashed and caught fire in a cornfield near the village of Osiny, located in the Lublin province approximately 100 kilometers from Ukraine’s border and 90 kilometers from Belarus.
Following an incident in 2022 when a Ukrainian missile landed in a southern Polish village killing two people,Warsaw has remained highly vigilant regarding unauthorized aerial objects entering its airspace.
Poland’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pawel Warnicki told Reuters that available evidence and expert claims indicate that this drone was manufactured in Russia.
Polish General Dariusz Malinowski asserted that this drone was deployed as part of a deception operation. He added it was designed for self-detonation and identified its engine as Chinese-made.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kozyniak-Kamysz compared this incident to previous cases where Russian drones entered Lithuanian and Romanian airspace. He suggested it reflects attempts linked to ending the war in Ukraine.
Kozyniak-Kamysz stated: “once again,we are facing a provocative move by the Russian Federation,this time involving a Russian drone. We are at a sensitive moment when peace talks on Ukraine are ongoing, yet this incident occurs.”
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski posted on X (formerly Twitter) that his ministry will formally protest against violations of Warsaw’s airspace but refrained from naming specific perpetrators or responsible parties.
this comes days after U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy along with several European leaders at the White House. The meeting followed Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this month in Alaska.
The Polish police reported discovering burnt metal fragments and plastic remains at the crash site. The cornfield suffered fire damage within an eight- to ten-meter radius surrounding where the object fell.
