Beijing’s Response to Western Moves Against Iran
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has commented on Iran.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the issue of Iran’s nuclear program is at a sensitive stage and that dialog and negotiations must resume. “We support peace and dialogue to steer the matter back onto the right track,” it said.
The ministry also criticized efforts to reimpose sanctions on Iran at the United Nations Security Council, calling such actions unconstructive.
Additionally, China warned Washington against interfering in its internal affairs, urging adherence to the one-China principle and an immediate halt to interference in Taiwan-related matters.
Meanwhile, Seyed Abbas Araqchi sent a detailed official letter early Friday morning, August 29, 2025, to Ms. Kaja Kallas, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and coordinator of the Joint Commission for the JCPOA. The letter thoroughly responds to Kallas’ August 18 correspondence concerning issues related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and its dispute resolution mechanism. It outlines key points on the current status of both the JCPOA and its dispute resolution process.
At the outset,Araqchi expressed regret over what he described as selective and incomplete narratives appearing in EU communications. He noted that these documents neglected basic facts as well as procedural histories related to both JCPOA implementation and UN Security Council Resolution 2231. They also ignored persistent EU neglect-particularly by France, Germany, and Britain-of their obligations under these agreements.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister reiterated positions previously detailed in letters dated July 22 and August 22, 2025. He emphasized that those three European countries lack any legal standing or legitimacy either to invoke dispute resolution mechanisms or activate snapback sanctions under JCPOA protocols.
Araqchi added that these positions have been endorsed by Russia and China as reflected in official explanatory notes submitted respectively on August 11 and August 19-20 to the Security Council.
He highlighted Iran’s longstanding use of dispute resolution mechanisms since it was first activated following U.S. withdrawal from JCPOA-and due EU failures-to uphold commitments under this multilateral agreement.
Araqchi rejected claims limiting Iran’s activation solely to two formal cases in 2020 by referring instead directly back to May 10, 2018 correspondence from Tehran plus multiple joint commission meetings held May 25 then July 6 prior thereto-all preceding Iranian remedial actions under JCPOA rules’évidence he said invalidated Europe’s arguments ignoring such context.
He insisted Tehran has pursued dispute settlement ”in good faith” through full exhaustion justifying its entitlement now for legitimate remedial measures according established procedures within international law frameworks.
Araqchi stressed further rejection by Iran alongside Russia & China toward any alleged attempt by europe’s so-called “troika” (France-Germany-UK) activating snapbacks during their bilateral initiatives in 2020-which did not meet exhaustion criteria nor constituted lawful remedies but amounted rather “counter-retaliatory measures” triggered exclusively against legitimate Iranian responses.
