Al Mayadeen: Egypt Moves Toward Conflict It Had Avoided for Years
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and al Mayadeen, the UAE publication National reported from informed sources that Egypt has requested guarantees from the United States to prevent further attacks on Hamas leaders by Tel Aviv.
The report states that Egypt’s official rhetoric against the Israeli regime has shifted recently, with Cairo now using the term genocide in reference to the Gaza conflict. Current tensions between the two sides have escalated over less than a month, especially amid discussions surrounding the notion of a “Greater Israel.”
Middle East Eye also reported that 40,000 Egyptian troops have been deployed in northern Sinai near the borders of occupied Palestine-a move that has provoked dissatisfaction from Tel Aviv.
The newspaper Al-Akhbar quoted Egyptian sources warning Washington against conducting any assassination operations on Egyptian soil.
Al Mayadeen wrote that following Tel Aviv’s attack on Doha, Egyptian social media users resurfaced remarks made by their president in 2015 about forming a joint Arab power to confront security challenges. It appears Egypt is moving toward confrontation-largely avoided for years-in response to Israeli aggressions such as its campaign in Rafah, occupation of Philadelphia corridor areas, and violations of the Camp David Accords.
