The English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency via Qatar’s Al Jazeera network, reports that the international sanctions against iran have officially come into effect.
Rubio: Diplomacy Remains Open for Talks with Iran
Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State-whose country illegally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 and disregarded international law-claimed alongside the reinstatement of UN sanctions: “The Security Council’s decision to reimpose sanctions on Iran proves that the world will not yield to Tehran’s threats, and that Iran must be held accountable.”
Without mentioning five rounds of negotiations between Iran and the U.S., or Washington’s green light to Tel Aviv for aggressive attacks against Iran, he asserted: “Trump has clearly stated that diplomacy remains open and reaching an agreement is still the best option for the Iranian people.”
the European Troika Confirms Implementation of UN Sanctions on Iran
Reuters reported, citing a statement from the European troika, that UN sanctions against Iran have been reinstated.
The statement did not acknowledge Europe’s lack of independence in decision-making regarding Iran’s nuclear issue or its full alignment with U.S. and israeli positions. It further urged Tehran to refrain from any provocative actions following these renewed sanctions.
U.S. Media: International Sanctions Will Freeze Iranian Foreign Assets
The Associated Press reported without referencing Washington’s breach of commitments during talks with Tehran or its withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018 under Trump’s first governance that with reactivation of international sanctions, Iranian foreign assets will once again be frozen and arms transactions halted.
The AP also noted that these sanctions target any development related to Iran’s ballistic missile programme.
Rubio also expressed gratitude on his X (formerly Twitter) account toward France, Germany, and Britain for supporting the restoration of international sanctions against Iran.
He claimed Security Council sanctions prevent uranium enrichment by Iran while imposing restrictions on its nuclear programs, ballistic missiles development, and arms trade.
