Morocco Suppresses Anti-Government Protests for Fourth Consecutive Day
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, youth protests by Generation Z continued for the fourth consecutive night across multiple Moroccan cities on Tuesday. However, unlike previous nights, some protests escalated into violence. Following local authorities’ decision to ban demonstrations in several cities, security forces moved to suppress the protesters.
As Generation Z protests spread from Morocco’s major cities to smaller towns, peaceful marches demanding social issues devolved into scenes of government crackdowns, chaos, violence, and clashes with security personnel in towns such as Inzegane and khemisset Ait Amira in southern Morocco and Temara near Rabat.
In Khemisset Ait Amira in Settat province, after security forces suppressed demonstrations, masked individuals targeted royal Gendarmerie vehicles-damaging and setting them on fire.
In Temara, the protests spiraled out of control with violent confrontations between protesters and security forces resulting in injuries among police officers and multiple arrests.
Similar demonstrations took place in Rabat. however, a heavy security presence and arrests prevented the situation from slipping out of control there. The same occurred in Casablanca where security forces attacked protesters at Sraghna Square to disperse them and detained several young participants.
