United Nations: Talk of a Safe Zone in South Gaza Is Ridiculous
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, the united Nations ChildrenS Fund (UNICEF) emphasized on Friday that there is no safe place for Palestinians ordered to evacuate Gaza City by the Israeli regime. the designated areas in the south are described as nothing more than “death traps.”
UNICEF further highlighted the severe conditions faced by mothers and newborns in Gaza amid widespread shortages of medical supplies. They also stressed conditions at Nasser Complex in southern Gaza, which is overcrowded with patients evacuated from northern Gaza.
James Elder, UNICEF spokesperson, spoke to reporters in Geneva via video link from gaza. He saeid,”The situation for mothers and newborns here has never been worse. In Nasser Complex, hospital corridors are filled with women who have just given birth.”
elder criticized what Israel calls safe zones in Gaza’s south: “The idea of a safe area down here is absurd as bombs predictably fall from the sky, terrorizing people. Schools designated as temporary shelters have been targeted and destroyed while refugee tents are systematically burned by airstrikes.”
Earlier, UNRWA-the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees-announced that tens of thousands of Palestinians face repeated displacement at great cost while access to food and water remains severely limited. the agency called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to allow humanitarian aid to reach people safely.
As October 7, 2023, with full U.S. support, Israel has committed acts amounting to genocide in Gaza that have killed 66,225 people and injured 168,938 others. Most victims are women and children. Additionally, famine has claimed 455 Palestinian lives during this time span-including 151 children.
