Julani: I Was Not an Al-Qaeda Member in 2001; Negotiations with Israel Are Currently Impossible

Abu Muhammad al-Julani rejected ties to al-qaida during the September 11 attacks in an interview with Fox News. He said, “I was only 19 years old at that time, vrey young, and had no role in decision-making. I have no connection to that event, and al-Qaida was not active where I lived then.”
Regarding the possibility of normalizing relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords framework, he stated: “We are not currently ready for direct negotiations with israel. The dispute between Damascus and Tel Aviv over sovereignty of the Golan heights remains a major obstacle.”
However, al-Julani did not rule out negotiations with the Israeli occupation regime altogether. He added: “It is possible that the U.S.government and former President Donald Trump could pave the way for such talks in the future.”
