Japanese Protest Takaiichi’s Remarks on Taiwan

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Xinhua, thousands of Japanese citizens gathered in Tokyo streets and outside Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s residence to express their anger over her statements regarding Taiwan.
Protesters at last night’s demonstration urged Takaichi to withdraw her stance supporting Taiwan and avoid escalating regional tensions.
Many Japanese fear that the prime minister’s pro-Western comments could trigger a new wave of military competition and tension across East Asia.
The demonstrators chanted demands for Takaichi to immediately retract her remarks and refrain from heightening strained relations with China.
Tensions between Beijing and Tokyo have risen in recent weeks following Takaichi’s remarks on potential Chinese military action against Taiwan Island.
The prime minister warned China that any attack on Taiwan would threaten Japan’s existence and could prompt Tokyo’s military intervention.
China has called on the Japanese prime minister to rescind these statements. It has also urged its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan. This move has resulted in widespread cancellations by Chinese tourists, possibly causing meaningful economic losses for Japan.
