Lazzarini: Gaza Residents Face New Hardships Due to ‘Byron’ Weather System

Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, reports that displaced Palestinians in Gaza are facing increased suffering due to severe weather conditions brought on by the ‘Byron’ system, exacerbating existing humanitarian challenges.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Philippe Lazzarini posted on X, stating that Palestinians who have lost everything are now facing a new wave of suffering.

He emphasized that displaced families in temporary shelters are grappling with increased difficulties as heavy rainfall causes flooding, destruction, and new health threats.

Lazzarini added that UNRWA teams, despite being displaced themselves, continue to work to help the people. These teams are working to drain sewage and floodwaters, collect garbage, distribute plastic coverings, winter clothing, and blankets, and provide medical services to those in need.

Since Wednesday morning, the Gaza Strip has experienced a severe rainfall system, leading to the flooding of thousands of tents in various areas. Forecasts indicate that this situation is expected to continue until Friday evening.

Concurrently, Gaza remains under the shadow of a war that began on October 7, 2023, with the backing of the United States and Europe, by the Zionist regime, resulting in widespread killings, famine, destruction, displacement, and mass arrests.

The conflict has so far led to the martyrdom and injury of over 241,000 people, mostly women and children. Additionally, more than 11,000 people are missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Famine conditions have also claimed many lives, particularly children.
