China Urges U.S. to Adhere to ‘One China’ Principle Amid Rising Taiwan Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a Chinese government official has urged the United States to adhere strictly to the ‘One China‘ principle and the stipulations of the three joint U.S.-China communiqués.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of China’s State Council, issued the statement in response to the recent publication of the U.S. National Security Strategy. She cautioned U.S. authorities to adopt a more prudent approach to issues concerning the island of Taiwan.
The spokesperson warned against allowing a minority of separatists on Taiwan to incite conflict between China and the United States. Zhu emphasized that there is only one China in the world and that any move toward Taiwanese independence is incompatible with peace in the Taiwan Strait.
The United States is among the international supporters of Taiwan, which currently governs itself autonomously. Washington’s political posture, along with that of its allies including Japan, has contributed to escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait in recent months.
