Pakistan Summons UK Deputy High Commissioner Over Threat Against Army Chief

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan‘s Foreign Ministry has summoned the UK’s deputy high commissioner in Islamabad over a viral video targeting General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff. The video, circulating on social media, showed a woman at a protest in Bradford, England, threatening to assassinate Pakistan’s military leader through a bomb attack.
The demonstration was organized by Pakistani expatriates in Bradford protesting the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The UK Embassy has requested Pakistan to share evidence of any criminal activity by protesters in Bradford with British police for investigation.
Associated Press reported that many of Khan’s supporters blame Pakistan’s military for their leader’s imprisonment. Khan has repeatedly claimed that the US and Pakistan’s military orchestrated his removal from power.
A special court in Pakistan recently sentenced Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-2 case. The case involves allegations that Khan retained an expensive Bulgari jewelry set, valued at approximately 80 million rupees, gifted by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince during an official visit in May 2021, after paying only 2.9 million rupees.
